On April 30 BUILD had over 1000 people at the Central Bank Center and we got the necessary commitments from Lextran and 7 Council members towards moving foward in getting microtransit in Lexington by getting the funding for a feasibility study. And for Eldercare we did not get the mayor and Commissioner of Social Services there, but we did get to shine a huge light on the need for services that will help seniors age longer in their own homes. I think people left that night on fire for wanting to move this issue of Eldercare forward.
To keep this work of making life in Lexington better for so many people by listening, researching and organizing we move into the Investment phase of the yearly cycle. Our MQ goal was set by our justice ministry team at $20,000, a big goal! The team has pledged $3800 because we believe in the value of this ministry to our parish and Lexington community.
The Celebration is BUILD’s next big event and will be Thursday, June 6 in the MQ Gym. Dessert will be served at 6:30 and the program starts at 7. We will celebrate what we have accomplished this year and celebrate those who made it happen by bringing 3 people with them, our people power. We kick off the Investment drive and the emphasis is on INVESTMENT! For example, our hard work got the city to start the Affordable Housing Fund and so far the city put in $47 M and $431 M has been leveraged in the city in building 3,487 units so far. I am investing in Lexington because I want to leave it better for my family but especially because I am doing what God calls me to do.
